While the Empire itself is prosperous, there are outcasts, known as "the Children of Phoenix Weathers", whom they consider their progenitor.
Set some time between the 33rd and 40th century, it shows the Great Human Empire, now ruled by "Imperial King" Tiberius, having hunted down (almost) all remaining cybrids and expanded beyond the boundaries of the Solar system through the so-called Interstellar Transfer Conduit.

The chronologically first game in the Tribes series is Tribes: Vengeance which was released in 2004. Pursuing his goal of fortifying the Earth against the inevitable cybrid retaliation, Petresun ruthlessly exploits Martian and Venusian colonies, spawning massive resistance movements among the colonists by 2802. To counter this threat, Petresun (having technically achieved immortality through his studies) proclaims himself the Emperor of Mankind in 2652 and succeeds in unifying and rebuilding the Terran civilization. Prometheus, however, survives the assault, fleeing into deep space. In Starsiege, the Terran resistance manages to drive Prometheus' forces out of Earth and onto the Moon where they are believed to be eliminated by General Ambrose Gierling and his squad's suicide attack. By 2602, Prometheus grows wary of humans and rallies all cybrids against humanity. Based on its design, thousands of cybrids are mass-produced as slaves. With more devious level designs, more skills, and more lemmings antics than the first game, Lemmings 2: The Tribes is a strong sequel that deserves no less notice than its famous ancestor does.The Tribes series begins in 2471, when scientist Solomon Petresun invents the first cybrid, a bio-cybernetic hybrid artificial intelligence named Prometheus.
Although most new skills are variants of the old ones, there are some fun additions, such as hanggliding, that require both precise timing as well as planning. However, since you can only finish a game after you have all pieces of the talisman, you have to try to save as many lemmings as possible on each level. You have 60 lemmings at the start of each tribe, and any lemmings you rescue come over to the next level. Lemmings 2 is also more forgiving than its predecessor in that you don’t have to rescue every lemming in a level to proceed. There are now 60 instead of 8 skills that you can assign to the lemmings, but fortunately they are limited to 8 per level, so the simple elegance of Lemmings is kept intact. Your goal is to escort each tribe though 10 levels so you can win a talisman for each tribe (you win gold, silver, or bronze depending on how many lemmings you are able to save). Instead of one big happy family, Lemmings 2 features 12 different "tribes" of lemmings. Then walk in a strait line, and your goal is to command them to do certain tasks that will help them to get to the exit without dying. The basic premise remains the same as in Lemmings: you start out with a certain number of lemmings. Lemmings 2: The Tribes* is a great sequel to Psygnosis’ famous puzzler Lemmings, although it never was quite as popular.Įveryone’s favorite furry critters are back, and this time, they come with all new abilities and much more varied terrain.
